Amen.
This shouldn’t be a polarized issue.

Seems simple doesn’t it?

Spot on...but also a bit ironic, as the media (cable news especially) are IMHO the strongest driving forces in
encouraging
polarizing opinions for their debates, opinions, and ratings (or pageviews). His predecessor was a notable example, and I don’t mean Craig Kilborn.

Holy shit the comments on that article! Business Insider is frequented by racists?

They have TONS of racists and bigots that frequently comment there.
I used to read BI every day, years ago, when they had quality reporting and relevant commenters. Now it’s all about recapping social media stories, PR placement and advertisements and the comments have been taken over by trolls. I rarely visit it anymore.

People with a profit motive will never stop pandering to our tribal nature.

I don’t know, I’m not affiliated with any political party, but most of the stuff I hear from Jon Stewart is pretty common sense type stuff. Like trying to get 9/11 first responders taken care of which is what he’s spent his own time and resources on for the last few years. The guy is obviously left leaning, but if that’s a polarizing issue then we’re fucked.

Yeah it was pretty disheartening reading the comments.

You mentioned it earlier in this thread, but it bears repeating. Despite all the hyperbole, the media in this country is neither conservative nor liberal. It is capitalist. It's all about making money. Manufacturing or cultivating outrage sells ads. And nobody is better at that than Roger Ailes.

To be honest, I get most of my news from comedic sources. Something about their humorous takes on these matters really helps to put things in perspective.

Truly. His views, which I believe all of us sensible people share, are the ideal. However the ideal works where everyone is sensible and can suppress their emotions for the common good. And thus, not reality.

That’s why I don’t [front door] with cable news outlets.

Yes! Such a powerful tool. Stephen Colbert’s character on The Colbert Report still remains one of my favorites.
